Are pesticides harmful?

Pesticides in our produce? Is it harmful?

  • Before consuming produce, I have always just rinsed under cold water for a few moments. My man, however, swears by soaking all of his produce in his sink with hot water and soap. My question is, is this necessary? Do pesticides have some kind of long-term damage? I consume a great deal of produce, so I am very concerned... -Thanks

    The government will tell you pesticides won't hurt you. The government also said Agent Orange wouldn't hurt our service men and woman............. There are some people who believe that Pesticides are the cause of so many ailments such as Autism in children, increase in cancer, alztimers, etc etc. In my opinion, there is no harm in avoiding pesticides and other man-made chemicals. I think you would be healthier if you did avoid them. But I don't think they will do any long term harm to you. But I will warn you of this..... if you are afraid of pesticides and herbicides and such; well washing your fruits isn't going to help! Do you think the farm resprays all his fruits after a rain storm? Pesticides and herbicides are designed NOT to wash off in water. All washing your fruits and vegetables do is remove some dirt that may have collect on it from transport and sitting in the market.

Yes foods with pesticides can be hard on the body! Are bodies are not made for pesticides it is hard for us to digest and break down that stuff! There is no way to wash it off, if you are concerded about you should try organic foods! Organic has no pesticides and it is easy for are bodies to break down!

The human body is very good at dealing with foreign chemical compounds. Your liver is a factory where all the thousands of strange natural chemicals in plants are broken down, and it deals with man-made chemicals, too. There is no evidence that pesticides on the surface of fruit and vegetables cause any health problems. Workers on farms and orchards who are exposed to high levels of pesticides and to undiluted pesticides can have health issues. On the other hand, soaking produce in hot water and soap will destroy vitamins in the produce, mean that you are eating a lot of soap, and probably not removing much or any of the minute amounts of pesticide you might be exposed to.

There is no need for concern. The goverment regulates the kind and amount of pesticides on plants. With out pesticides an other chemicals America wouldn't be able to produce enought food for its citizens

I asked about it and was told many of them have serious overload of pesticides and herbicides in their blood which has to be purged out. I talked with three of them and was told the process was giving them a new life, but the better choice would be to avoid pesticides and herbicides completely, your body has difficulty getting rid of them.
