Answer:
The formation of a seed, a small embryonic plant, is the last step of reproduction in plants. It takes place after fertilization and also after pollination. A fruit is really just a ripened ovule of a plant and an ovule is a reproductive part of the plant. Generally pollen grains are transmitted from a stamens to a pistil. A carpel is a reproductive organ of the plant. A pistil is made up of a carpel or carpels. A stamen is considered a "male" part of the plant and the carpel "female." Most plants have both parts but self-fertilization is not the norm for plants. The seed coat is not a reproductive part of a plant. Did you ever notice when eating a watermelon spitting all those seeds out? Or bit too deep in the core of an apple? Those are actually the plants seeds. I'm not 100% sure of its relevance but if you look at that link there the seeds are formed after some growth has occurred within the motherplant. When growth starts with a seed this as known as germination. A process. Again, not totally sure of the relevance of that.
