How stable are the Clinical Research Associate jobs?

Jobs for sciene major that aren't lab/research related? Preferably botany related?

  • Well the title says it all... I graduated in April w/ a BS in biology, and it turns out I hate research. I'm thinking about going to get my MSW so I can do counseling, but I would like to find a job I enjoy in the mean time. I really like botany, and I do like some aspects of science, but I hate research b/c it is so boring to me. I wouldn't mind a job sitting at a desk all day if it was more interesting (or if I could do something else interesting at the same time, like multi-tasking) and I wouldn't mind a job outside/explorative. I think one of the main things I hate about research is you can't see what you're working with (the research I did was mainly on the microscopic level) and I need something less abstract you know? Anyway, any suggestions on what I could do? Thanks! :)

  • Answer:

I know I'm not supposed to be awake right now, but I just got out of the shower and I'm checking email and such while my hair dries. :-] Anyways, you are just the opposite of me! I want to go into Psych but ONLY do the research, and not the hands on/patient types of things. I don't want to interact with people lol. Anyway... this may be a far cry from a reasonable job (hard to find?)... but what about working for an agency like National Geographic or something, finding plants and maybe doing some testing with them, photograph them, analyze their make up, etc. (I'm not too botanically educated, as you know!). I mean doing hands on stuff like actually traveling for a company and going and finding plants, taking samples, etc. Sounds like a sh** ton of fun to me !!!!

I'm sure with what you have learned there are many things you could find to do with your knowledge. Landscaping for instance you could help people design their gardens so that there wasn't any conflicting plants. That the right plants are in the right area to get what they need to flourish the best. You could also get into organic foods by either contributing by growing your own produce and selling it for quite the mark-up if its organic, or find ways for now day farmers to be able to grow organically through natural ways of fending off threats. You could also get into hydroponics i know there is a lot of money being made off hydroponic tomatoes because you can control the climate conditions thus being able to keep tomatoes going indefinably I'm sure it would work with other stuff as well but those are just some ideas
