Flip Video Camera waterproof case?

Cheap waterproof camera case? even if i have to make it.?

  • i am a water sports fanatic. i scuba dive, surf, run rivers, ect... i want to share these experiences with my friends and my youtube subscribers. i have an aqua-pack (not sure how to spell it) and the flexible lens distorts over my camera lens. not to mention there is a 15ft limit. (i had to take my depth gauge snorkeling) i want plans or prices for waterproof camera cases that can go to about -40ft. they have to have a place for the camera lens and a place for me to see through to the view screen. they would rock if they did have (but dont need) a place to mount them to a tripod.(i rigged my tripod to mount to the raft only to realize i cant use it through the aquapac. look at my other question to see my plan if there are none better (and as long as ppl aren't too critical of it.) here is a camera similar to mine. http://www.techshout.com/images/kodak-c513.jpg if it is just a transparent box that can withstand the depth i can put the aquapac inside it if it leaks as the distortion is only noticeable when the pack is surrounded by water. if you need more info ask as i am bad at describing my problem.

    Yep...camera bags....they do distort your images. All of them. If you really would like to take pics of decent quality or even vids, check out a manufacturer like IkeLite. They make housings for many makes and models of cameras. Personally, I use a Canon 720IS with an Ikelite housing. The housing is good to 200 feet and the camera is pretty inexpensive at 170 bucks. Does high res vid and stills. Also has it's own underwater mode!!!!!. SDHC card and at an 8gig (20 bucks) good for over 30 minutes video at high res. You could also go the amphibious route. A camera that is above and below but since it has it's own housing...expect 350 bucks min.

You get what up pay for. If cheap is what you really want then plan on optimizing the system you've MacGyvered. With the shear amount of water activities you are into and methods in which you wish to share these experiences with fam and friends - I suggest you upgrade your camera to one that offers a waterproof housing. Look on Craigslist for a waterproof camera and housing or have one of your fans finance it for you...

Aquapac does make some soft cases with a hard lens, which shouldn't cause as much distortion as the flexible lens. But it's also only good to 15 feet (according to them). Completely rigid cases that are good for deeper waters are usually designed for specific model cameras. So if they don't make one for your camera, you may be out of luck. Otterbox does make clear storage boxes that are good up to 100 ft. But you wouldn't have access to the buttons. You'd have to modify one somehow. Probably easier to find a different camera that has a rigid housing available unless you enjoy an engineering challenge.
