What happens if I do poorly on a civil service test?

Help me understand who is at fault here... I took my jet ski in for service and next thing I know its on fire?

  • So my 02 polaris virage TX puttered out on me one day so I took it to the shop I bought it from. Come to find out I needed a new stator and CDI (mind you this is last summer), ok so it goes in early summer nothing happens for some time, finally its getting close to when my family comes up and we all go to the lake. I express my concern and suddenly they say its cool if I take it for the weekend since Ive already paid and whatnot, its not fully fixed but its good enough to take the fam out for a day of fun. Anyway I take it out for a test run and next thing I know its smokin like crazy and all the wires behind my gauges catch on fire and burn up along with my whole Display (speedometer and gas gauges and all that). Long story short they now tell me I have to pay for the new displays and wires (over $900) because there is no way they could have known that would happen. (even though the mechanic tested it out with 3/4 of my 16 gal gas tank, and told me it was good to go and would be fine for the weekend and just bring it back after.) What should I do? On top of that, they now are asking for the service manual I have for it that I originally offered and they said they didn't need in the beginning of this mess. Should I give them the manual or should they give me some kind of extra discount for supplying them with the manual also. Its been almost a year they've had my ski and Im so frustrated I just need some outside opinions or something cause I am unsure what to do. Serious answers only please.

  • Answer:

I would get it out of the shop and take it to another in another town if possible, and have them explain and write up an estimate. I would not let them have the manual. If there is no shop near by, it might cost some money, but an engineer can go over the watercraft and give you an expert opinion as to the cause of the fire. His research and decision can be used in court if it goes that far. Make sure he is a licensed engineer in your state. Good Luck

Well they probably need the manual now to figure out the toasted and melted wiring. I think you are both at fault, they letting you take it out not completely fixed and you insisting that you wanted to use it. Have you contacted your insurance co regarding the damage? They may cover some of the repair.
