Where to scuba dive in Egypt?

Ear problems- Can I go Scuba diving on holiday?

  • 2 days ago I went scuba diving, 2 dives had been planned. On the first dive I had no problems equalizing my ears but on the second dive I couldn't equalize and had to abort the dive. My instructor recommended I go to the doctors to get my ears checked out. I did this the next day and it turns out I have fluid at the back of one of my eardrums and so have been put on a course of antibiotics. I am meant to be going diving in Egypt in 1-2 weeks time, the doctor said she isn't a diving expert but she thinks I wont be able to dive. Is this true, and if so is there anything I can do to sort this problem out?

  • Answer:

To be honest if your Doc doesn't know then what's the chances of anyone here knowing? Give DAN a shout and ask them. http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/default.aspx Sadly, in my entirely non-qualified opinion, I think your Doc may be right. If the fluid is still there you're running the risk of permenantly damaging your hearing and I'm not too sure how the antibiotics+diving would mix either.
