How do I make a skimboard?

How can I make my skimboard less slippery?

  • I just got a really good Zap skimboard yesterday, but the second time I tried it, I slipped off and sprained my thumb. I looked at the grips for the skimboards, and they are all extremely expensive. What would be a good way to make my board less slippery without all the money?

  • Answer:

Surf wax!!! Sex Wax is by far the most popular and is sold all over the place. Skimboarding is super hard without it. Rub a bunch of it right on the board and it will usually build up bumps pretty quick which help with grip a lot. It's super soft/sicky so you'll have lots of grip. If the wax gets too smooth, use a surf comb (or an old hair comb) to roughen up the surface and it will be as good as new. Also, sand usually gets stuck in the wax too which makes it look dirty, but the sand mixed in with the wax gives you even more grip. Don't worry about how it makes the board look, you'll get used to it. If the wax gets too dirty/old, scrape it off with the back straight edge of a surf comb (or old credit card) and start over from scratch.
