What kind of sailboat should i buy?

Sunfish Sailboat Question?

  • I'm a new sailor with a sunfish sailboat. I have a tear in my old sail just a little smaller than the size of a dvd case. I tried pulling on it gently to see if it would rip, and it didn't rip at all, so I'm fairly sure it should be safe. Is there any kind of quick fix until I get it repaired or buy a new one? Also, how will it affect performance? Thanks

  • Answer:

First, performance will suffer because you are spilling wind. Second, you should really have it repaired because it will continue to rip even though you can't rip it by hand.

Sailing with it is probably not a good idea until it's been checked out. One thing you can do is get some sail repair canvas and string. Patch it up using a round stitch so that it'll be watertight as well. Good luck and happy sailing!
