How would you get an Erg score for rowing?

2k Erg Test Technique (rowing)?

  • I am a novice women going into my second season of rowing but right now we are in erg season. Last season I was in novice B boat and I would love to be in A boat but I need a really good erg score to do so. I am 5 ft 7 and 13 years old 150 lb. I have only done 1 erg test and it was horrible Time: 9:40 Split: 2:30 very embarrassing and im sure i could do way better for my height i just need to know how to push myself to get it way down I would like my time to be around 7:50 to 8:00

  • Answer:

Many rowers find cutting off a second from their time to be impressive. Don't be disappointed if this goal doesn't happen. It'll be hard. Good luck though! Things to think about: Erging is different that rowing. In rowing you use a certain amount of lay back every stroke. On an erg you use more. When youre rowing you pull into your body at a certain height to set the boat. On an erg you pull in at a higher target. Because the erg machine has no sense of "good technique," it favors the most effective ERGING technique: 1) more lay back (don't go crazy though) 2) higher target 3) both legs between arms Keep these in mind and you'll do fine.

just make sure you pace yourself. you always want to shoot for negative splitting! start out at the lowest split you think you can reach, and every 1000 meters move it down a split or two! with your size you should be able to pull a 2:20 and i think thats what you should shoot for! Good luck!

There are some good resources for training at the Concept2 site...good luck
