Build A Boat for Science Class?

OK, So for my Biology class, we have to build a boat that can hold something living.... preferably toad or something. There are prizes givin for 1) fastest boat to designated point 2) most accurate boat at designated point 3) boat that holds the most weight (live animal).... Any suggestions to get me started???

Answer:
A boat floats by displacing water, and not taking on water. The goal is to maximize the volume it can contain with a low weight of materials. Or if materials float, then that also reduces displacement. I suggest thin waterproof foam boards, with a good quality waterproof glue as good place to start. Wide bottom. Sides not too tall, unless you add cross pieces to resist water pressure that will collapse the sides. My university engineering department has a concrete boat competition every year.
