Should I slim down to become a better rower?
-
I am 5'7 and around 165 pounds...would I be a better rower if I got my weight down to 145 or 150??
-
Answer:
It depends on your build. If you have a fat-heavy midsection, then of course, fat is only going to slow you down. But if you're a built 165 at 5'7'' pulling like a 7:00 2k as a girl (assuming you're female) then you want to weight 165. A rower, like most other competitive athletes, wants to have as little fat as possible while maintaing as much muscle as possible. It all depends on your build and you splits.

it depends if you want to go heavy or light weight because you are right in between both you can stay light or go heavy. 145 is too light

Possibly, as long as you're fit enough and have enough muscle then it shouldn't be a problem. If you wanted to go down to 150 for your own health it might help.
