How to fix my wetsuit?

How to fix a tare in a weatsuit?

  • ok so i have always been into snorkling and when i movied down south the first thing i got was a wetsuit (never used one before) ok so i am out snorkling and im not sure what made me do it but i decided to try and sit on top of one of the granite boulders coming out of the water and as i am doing it my but scrapes on some of the barnacles and now there is a small tear in my wetsuit about the size of a 10c peace. so how can i fix this? i looked on the internet and they all seemed to deal with gashes not a round tear. the tear dosnt go al the way through it went through most of it except a thin layer made out of that rashee material. so i dont think i can fold it put the glue in then squeeze it together...... any ideas?

  • Answer:

as some of the other have suggested to get some proper neoprene glue and fill and patch deepening on the size. my extra is buy some thinner neoprene and add extra on the seat and knees as they will wear and tear as you have already found out.

Two answers. Acquire the proper glue/cement. Read the directions. Time is important. Match the torn surfaces together and then do the gluing. Or - Cut a patch and cover the hole. Apply the patch to the outside of your suit. If you can't get patching material, cut a piece from some part of your suit.

Down south eh? I suppose the water isn't too cold. Wet suits are supposed to hold a thin layer of water against your skin. You body heats the water and you stay warm. So now that we understand that you are supposed to get wet as long as the water isn't flowing through your suit, and that the water isn't that cold, here's what you do for cuts, tears, rips, gashes, adding a piece, whatever. Get some good strong thick thread. You can double the thread if you think it will be better. Sew it up, using plenty of stitches. Use wetsuit glue inside and outside making sure to thoroughly cover your repair. If you have a cold water suit, they don't sew all the way through the suit. They only go have way through to make sure it doesn't leak. Guess what, they leak anyway, they are supposed to. I have sewn up a 12 inch rip. Reattached the lower portion of a sleeve. A bunch of holes in the rear like you have. Look at it like this. A wetsuit is like a pair of gloves. It is made to protect you. It's ok to get holes in them and to tear them up a little. Just sew them up, let the glue dry and go back out and try not to slide down anything on your butt.
