What size surfboard should I buy?

What size surfboard should I buy?

  • I have had a few surfing lessons and I was learning on a soft board/soft-top board. It was 7"2 in length and I found it a good size, but I've been reading up and some people have said not to buy a soft board if you're wanting to do a lot more surfing as you may as well go for a minimal or something like that. Only problem I have is my parents is on a limited budget (£200 max.) and the longest board I would be able to fit in our car is 6"7. I've read up and they say to get a board that is at least a foot taller than you. Also, not related to this question really, but why do pros ride such short boards? People I've spoken to said the boards can sink if they are too short. I'm 5"6, age 16 and weigh 62 kilos. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've seen this board online but I don't know if it would only be suitable for younger people. Some advice about this would be helpful too. http://www.bargainboards.co.uk/P/Bic_Surf_SHORTBOARD_Surfboard_6_7_Orange_Detail_S62310-(22451).aspx Thanks
