I have just bought a jet ski. Is there a technique to jumping waves in the surf to get big air?

Timing has alot to do with it & a understanding of the waves will also help. If you hit them to quick or on the full part of the wave you will only get distance & whiplash. You will also land flat & its the best way to hurt yourself. Pick your wave, stay inside & putt around. If you have to you will outrun the waves. If you have surfed before you will know exactly where to hit it. You have the white wash where the wave is breaking & it gets fuller (rounder) the further you get away from it. You need to be closer to the white wash but not to close because it will bust over you. A nice shaped wall is where you want to hit. A couple of short blats to get yourself in position then you will be on the throttle almost like you have the DTs very very short bursts to edge up to it. At the base of the wave give her all shes got to the top. You will shoot up vertically (& don't pull back) you want to land like a pin drop. The tail will land 1st & you will submerge 1/2 your ski when done properly & it will pop up & ride away for the next one. When done this way you won't even know you've landed because there's no jarring & you won't be able to get enough of it once you pull off your 1st one. If your still only getting distance you are hitting the wave to fast (shorten your run up) slowly, slowly & then give it to it at the base, or your hitting the wave where its not lippy enough try & get in closer towards where it is breaking. Too much fun, wish i could be there. Have fun, practice will make perfect & you won't beleive how high you will get. The pin drop landing is the only way to go.

practice and timing on when to throttle up. it won't take you long to feel when you should give it all she's got.
