Where is there good surfing lessons on the Jersey shore?

Are surfing lessons worth it?

• I can stand up on the board, and ride a 3-4 foot wave into the shore, and steer the board aswell. Is it worth having lessons or will i just pick it all up as i go along?

  Yes, lessons are the best way to start. Lessons can come from a professional instructor, or surfing family members or experienced surfing friends. You have to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up don't want to drown you), how to paddle and take off on a wave, and how to ride a wave. The last thing experienced surfers want is for inexperienced people to just grab a board, rush into the surf and get in our way. Lessons shorten the learning curve significantly. And they help keep ignorant, un-prepared kooks out of the water and out of the way of more experienced surfers Riding a wave "into the shore" is fine for a little child on an inflatable raft. You have a lot to learn. There is nothing wrong with taking lessons. They can help prevent or correct bad habits that otherwise might stick with you forever.I started surfing 44 years ago, before there was any such thing as "lessons" and took me a whole summer to get to what most people would call "decent".. I have given you most, but not all of the good reasons to start with lessons. I'm sure someone will try to convince you that you don't need them. Just do me a favor. If you take their advice, let me know where you surf, so I can steer clear of there for a year or two. Good luck!
