What surfboard should I start with?

What is the best surfboard to start on?

• I would like to learn how to surf but I don't know what board to get? I have been searching on the internet and I have heard that a Long board and a Soft surfboard.

  What you've found on the internet is exactly right - the longer the board, the easier to balance. And of course, balance is the difficulty in learning to surf. Also, soft boards are recommended because they tend to be lighter allowing for easy carrying, quicker paddling out, and less chance of dragging you under because it's more float-y. I recommend buying a secondhand board as your first board. All you need is something to practice on for awhile - soon enough, you'll develop your own preferences and you'll want to invest in a different board so no point spending a whole lot of money on a brand new board now before you know what you're getting yourself into. You can find cheap boards (I use the word cheap relatively, they are really rather expensive, even secondhand around $300) at garage sales, on craigslist, or using ebay.
