When and where did skiing start?

Slalom water skiing, where to start?

  • So I have been skiing for 5 years now, and I am at a point where I think I need outside help. Im 16, 150 lbs, and can one ski start behind a 115 hp boat (which is a feat in itself!). The only place I ski is in a lake in Ontario for 2 weeks out of the summer, which is a very far way away from Washington D.C., my home town. I use an Obrien adjustable ski pair (cant remember the name of the specific model). I can cut from side to side pretty comfortably, but when I look at film of myself, it doesn't look anything like professional skiers. If I would want to look into getting more into skiing, what would be the next step to improve myself? I am looking into buying a slalom ski but am lost in that attempt too. Would lessons be the next step?

  • Answer:

the boat is an outboard so that is good for skiing because it has a small wake. Lessons are always a great way to go but if you don't want to invest the cash or if its so late in the season since you only get 2 weeks a year your next step should be to look at the pictures in the magazines and then try to make yourself look in the same body position. After studying what you want to achieve, then get someone to video tape you skiing. you should be able to look at the pictures and compare them to your video. you can always get "how to" videos on you tube.
