How fast should you drive a boat while wakeboarding?
-
I don't know whether to drive fast and make it easier to jump the smaller wake, or drive at a safer speed but have a bigger gap to jump. What's the best speed to drive your boat that will make it easy to jump from wake to wake but will still be a safe speed?

Answer:
these are seriously some of the most incorrect answers I've ever seen. the boat speed should be between 18-23 MPH depending on the rider weight and the boat. Every boat has an optimum speed to make a good clean wake at a certain rope line length. For instance, When I ride I am on a 65' line and the wake gets clean at 22 mph. If I lengthen the line to 70' then I will most likely have to bump up the speed to 23 or so to clean out any white wash or curl on the wake. any answer that says over about 24 mph, for the heaviest riders or pros that are riding 85' lines are just spouting to make it sound good. learning to wake board is not about who can go the fastest or hang on to the longest line, but who does something with the wake. test your boat out and see where your wake is best. Every wake boat has an optimum line length also. my boat, a malibu is noted for its riding with a 65' line. once you get the line length and speed dialed in them you go for boat balance. 5% of the weight in the bow, 15 % mid ship and the balance in the stern. If your crew is in the boat and the rider is directly behind the boat, shift weight in the boat toward the washier of the wakes until both wakes are even..

If you want to jump wake to wake for real have the line at 70 and depending on your size go 20 to 23.... Don't have the rope any shorter than 60 because there's no point in jumping wake to wake when the wakes are an inch apart...also pay more attention to your riding because learning how to jump one wake the right way is better than jumping bot the wrong way. However fast the wakeboarder wants you to!

you need to be somewhere in the middle of the two extremes. After you try a few times just adjust as needed.
