What is a best shape for wooden skimboard?

How do you get the shape of a skimboard?

  • I am making a skimboard and i cant get a shape of it so can you give me like a printable version or a stencil or something to help me get a shape. I am only 12 and wiegh 75 pounds and am 4'8". Please help me.

  • Answer:

Make it the shape you want. A wide oval is good, but round may be better so you can throw it any direction with no "front edge". If the bottom is beveled, it does not need a curve. My brother made his own 40 years ago. Plywood, epoxy and fiberglass.

We used to call them sand sliders or paipo boards depending on how you were going to used them. The simple way was to make form for only half the board. Set a line down the middle of the board and set the half on the board and trace it. Turn the form over and trace the other side. From there you take your jigger and cut it. How they make these board today have turned into a science. We made out of half inch ply wood and then resin or varnished them. We used to use what he had. Resin is better. As far as shapes, we used to make all kinds of shapes. Not that I want to tell you your business, but if you have access to a beach that is great for sandsliding (skimboarding), why don't you just order one on line or buy one from a shop.
