How do I enable cookies on my mac?

Is it normal for a job site to require applicants to enable third party cookies?

  • The Duke Human Resources site would not let me view job openings until I changed my cookie settings to "Prompt" for third party cookies. Now, when I visit the page, I'll get a cookie prompt from brassring.com and if I allow that cookie, I can view the jobs. I figure this is harmless, but I'd always read that all third party cookies should be blocked. I guess I just don't understand why the site uses third party cookies instead of first party cookies. Prior to this, I'd always get an error page saying that I had cookies disabled and that I needed to enable them. I tried changing my security settings to default, but that didn't work. Having third party cookies on prompt does work. Is this normal?

  • Answer:

Having third-party cookies is quite normal, especially if a website uses another website for additional functionality (eCommerce, for example) or advertising. Requiring third-party cookies is less frequent but not unheard of. You know what cookies are, right? http://www.addedbytes.com/blog/are-cookies-dangerous/
