How much information does someone need to know to hack your PC?
-
Apparently I'm being paranoid but excuse me for just making sure ! Someone knows my IP address and I was told a PC cannot be hacked JUST with a IP address. So how much info does someone actually need to hack my PC?? And how do I know if I am being keylogged?

Answer:
An IP address and a few pennies or cents will get someone a small bag of sweets. Since ALL Internet connections are subject to random attacks continuously the knowledge of an address makes no difference. Watching Internet server logs on machines with multiple ports wide open to the Internet I see up to 2000 attacks in an hour from an automated script, 2 or 3 times a day. And none of these has been hacked. Unless you mess with firewall settings on the router and machine, or open remote desktop or similar nobody can actually hack your machine. But you need to worry more about email carried infections, or bad sites forcing a download infection. Careless browsing is the most common way to get spyware. So use a good active anti-spyware/virus, the major free ones will do as well as any, and back this up with the free download from : http://malwarebytes.org Update it manually once or twice a month, run the full scan if you ever suspect an infection.

Unless they have had physical access to your PC and internet router to disable both firewalls and / or plant some form of remote access software, you should not worry about it. Get some decent anti-malware programs to make sure you don't get any nasties from web pages and never open attachments in emails... See the links for two of the best (free) malware scanners:

knowing some1s ip is the same as knowing where they live . your firewall is your protection think of it as your doorman he lets in and out programs you allow. If you are using cracked software you are probably part of a bot net where hackers are using your machine along with every other bot they have to mass visit what ever site they want to pester. If unshaw your machine isnt clean reinstall. Why would some1 want to keylog you? Most key-loggers I've seen are installed locally.
