Virus scan in safe mode?

Computer has virus that won't let me scan in Normal Mode AND SAFE Mode. What do I do?

  • I recently got a virus that stops my scans. Windows Defender doesn't work. It stopped in the middle of a scan on a fresh install and now won't even come up. I have tried all the methods posted about scanning in safe mode and all that, but the virus seems to still be working even then because even when I try to install or scan IN SAFE MODE the scans still just stop and close. What do I have to do to fix this annoying virus? I have tried different methods from renaming the install.exe and the actually scanning software and whatnot. I tried using Malwarebyte's and etc.

Short and Sweat will work 100% guaranteed The simple most effiecient method for you would be to purchase a standard CD-R pack doesnt matter what disc type you buy honestly as long as it can hold at least 700MB space which will say on the pack (Note: Please use another machine to do this if you cant do it here) Secondly, please use the infected machine to go to www.freedrweb.com They offer a free downloadable image in which you can burn to a CD, this is a scanner which will get rid of all viruses please bare with me No need to be too detailed, but all it does is it doesnt need Windows to load, it boots from when the computer initially starts, therefore Viruses cant actually stop you from doing it it is fool proof and no virus can beat it and this is your best bet for an infection like this, the scanner will cure all infected files and then enable you to load back into Windows to clear the rest of the infection. This is a standard ISO image you will of downloaded You will need burning Software such as "Nero" which im sure you can download a free trial You could use freeware WinRAR to get the contents out of it and then just burn the files manually just google it You can use another machine to do it!!!, but you will need software to work with the ISO format image, maybe get a friend to make the CD All you do after the CD is made just pop it in your tray, CLOSE!, then restart and then follow the instructions and problem solved! promise Troubleshoot: if the disc does not load after restart you will need to press one of the F* buttons which may be shown on startup to change startup option Good Luck

Hello DK, This sounds like a pretty nasty virus. If it is stopping your windows defender from working in the middle of a scan on a fresh install then it is pretty bad. Especially if you are unable to scan in safe mode. It sounds like you might be better off doing a fresh install. The easiest thing to do at this point is to re-install the OS.

Can you run Task Manager and MSCONFIG? If so, you can manually clean/stop some junk from running, and therefore prevent your software cleaners from doing their best job. Your software cleaners will do a better job cleaning up junk that's sleeping as opposed to running. My suggestion is to format and reinstall the operating system.

On an uninfected computer, get some boot time virus scanner. http://www.techmixer.com/free-bootable-antivirus-rescue-cds-download-list/ Burn them onto a cd using a cd burner in ISO image format. Restart your infected computer. As soon as it loads, insert the cd into the cd drive, and when prompted to boot from cd, do so. scan with the bootable antivirus, and clean as much virus as possible.

if you run linux as your OS you won't have any problems. no viruses.
