What are the weird pop-ups on my computer?

  • Well, I've heard of spyware, and key-loggers. But I'm not sure what this is. It may be neither, or it might be both. Sometimes while I'm working on my computer a little black box will pop up and then disappear almost instantly. It's been happening for a while, and I'm not sure what it is. I think it may be harmful, but I have no idea what it is. I could never read what it said because it usually disappeared too quickly. Today it happened again, and I actually got to read the words. It turns out that they said "Copying files" Well, that can't be good. Should I be concerned?

    Sounds like a DOS screen pops up . You got a program that is doing something to the Base Operating System which is DOS . That is the part of Windows that causes all the crashing locking up and program problems . It might be your virus program . Doubt it is a trojan because to get to it that program would have to be part of the DOS system .

A black box? Sounds like command promt, which is no virus but weird that it would need to pop up like that, it sounds extreme but maybe try to record your screen so when it pops up you can pause the video to see what it actually is. it will most liekly be named if it is a windows pop up, this may help people here answer it or just show your what it is copying and you might realise what it is from that

Firstly, make sure that you don't have any external memory devices connected, that could be performing background backups. Secondly, yes, viruses can make copies of your files but they do not normally make a pop-up. So that's rather odd. If you are worried do a virus scan and make sure to make a backup of your most personal files and then take them off your computer.
