Removing a computer virus causing pop up ads and fake warnings- NEED HELP!!?
-
On Sat. I was on myspace, computer froze up and had 10 pop up ads appear. Ever since then have had fake security warnings pop telling me that I need to download some other program to make sure my computer is safe. I WILL NOT do this b/c I know it is a hoax. Plus I have Webroot Spyware and Anti virus already. I called them, said it was virtumonde(?) but my scans do not tell me anything about this...just other types of adware. It also totally changed my background of my computer to blue (another ad for that fake spyware) and won't let me alt+ctrl+del- says system admin won't allow it. I am running Windoows XP,purchased computer in 2005, good with computers but not this! HELP!! Thanks sooo much!

Answer:
Try downloading avg, there is a free edition. http://free.grisoft.com/ run it, see if that helps. you can also try http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ it's a virus scanner online. it works really well. if those dont work your best shot will be reinstalling xp.

Step 1: Make sure that you have an up to date antivirus program. If you don't, install AVG. You should only have one antivirus program. (If you need to uninstall your antivirus, use RevoUninstaller) Step 2: Visit the Google Pack website, and use it to download Spyware Doctor. Step 3: Download and install ThreatFire. Step 4: Make sure to use Mozilla's Firefox from here on out. Also, install the Adblock Plus and NoScript add-ons for it. Step 5: Make sure that you have a firewall program on your computer. If you don't, install Comodo. Step 6: Turn off System Restore, and restart in safe mode Step 7: Launch Spyware Doctor and make sure to update it by clicking on the Smart Update button. Step 8: Run an Intelli Scan, uncheck, "create restore point...", and then click the fix button. Repeat until intelli scan doesn't find anything new. Step 9: Run a full scan. Step 10: If the full scan finds something, run an intelli scan after. Step 11: Run a full scan with your Antivirus program. Step 12: Restart. If everything is fixed, you can stop now. If the problem persists, read my guide at the link below for more in depth instructions. This is just a quick summary of what you should do.
