What is downloading?

How do you see what your PC is downloading?

  • My PC is downloading something at full speed as if i'm actually downloading something like a game etc. However... I am not... I have checked Steam and UTorrent and neither of them are downloading anything... I have shut down every piece of software possible and restarted my pc. But whatever it is won't stop downloading. I also have 3 sets of very good Anti-Virus software and and also a specialist firewall. But I have scanned and checked with all of them and none of them can find a thing. So I'm stumped. I just want to find a way so I can see what the my PC is downloading so I can shut it off manually. This is getting really annoying as anything which requires using the internet now pretty much won't work.

  • Answer:

Firstly get rid of additional Anti-virus software's, You only need one. You have one Anti virus, One anti spyware, one firewall, one ad-ware blocker, But don't have more than one software of same type, it will conflict with each other and affect the PC performance as well, Check if windows update is downloading in the background, If not in order to check network usage Push ctrl+alt+esc to bring up task manager and Click on networking to check for Network usage and then corresponding to that go to processes and check with one is using the network. If you are still facing the issue then Block all network traffic temporarily using your firewall software. if it is still the same, and you have a wireless internet, someone else might be using your internet, Change your network password.

Other answers

you can open up windows task manager and click on the Processes tab, then look at the processes and see if there is one that isnt supposed to be there, also on steam click on view>Downloads , if nothing seems to work, you should scan your computer with your anti virus.
