What is an antivirus better?

What is better for antivirus: Avast or AVG?

  • Every website says that these are really good free programs, but which ones is better? I used to have McAfee but it expired and it was really annoying anyway so I doubt I'm gonna renew it.

  • Answer:

i have used AVAST on my 3 computers (the free version) for the last 3 years and i have had very good results - no viruses, easy to use. It doesnt' seem to slow down my computer either. But make sure you turn the sound off, because i hate it when the software "talks" to you.

I just uninstalled AVG today because it never seemed to find anything and replaced it with Avast. With Avast, I find at least some problems and so far, it's been working very nicely though, it scared the **** out of me when talked.

AVG is horrible. Avast is the better of those two, but MSE is better than both.

Meh, Internets

Avast hands down.

AVAST.

Avast is the best of the two, but you're not "safe" with either one of these programs. McAfee is actually really good this year; this is the first year in 10 years that I actually recommend it. Microsoft Security Essentials used to be Windows Live OneCare. OneCare was said to be the best anti-virus at that time. Windows felt that everybody deserved to have a free anti-virus so their computers would not get infected; thus, they released Microsoft Security Essentials. Microsoft Security Essentials has about a total of 98% detection of all types of Malware and about 53% detection of new Malware. 53% detection of **new** Malware is really good, and when I refer to "new," I mean under three days old. Kaspersky Anti-Virus is the top anti-virus program out there, but, unfortunately, it is not free and costs more than most other AVs. If you get Microsoft Security Essentials (or any other anti-virus), it is recommended that you have a backup. I HIGHLY recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

There are three good free anti-virus programs, Avira, Avast, and Microsoft. Avg free is not one of the good one. The main reasons for this statement, is AVG does not offer rootkit protection. This is an important feature because many of the rouge anti-virus programs infect a computer using rootkits. If you do get AVG you will need another program with real time protection from rootkits. Threatfire or something like that.

Avast is better. It costs money but it is a lot more safe, friendly, and doesn't annoy you 24/7

Mostly n00bs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. People of their ilk love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about! Avast is, by far the better solution. And to Jeser101, who posted above.....Avast has a free version...thats right 100% free that is used by 100 million people worldwide. A "6 year computer expert".....where was that...in kindergarden or nursary school? LOL.

They're both good. Which one you think is better comes down to personal preference and colloquial evidence, which has no meaning. See which one works best for you. Microsoft Security Essentials is the best however. Best detection rate.
