How do you disable AVG Antivirus?

AVG or Norton antivirus?

  • At the moment, I have avg 9.0 free and ad-aware antivirus programs. I'm pretty sure I have a virus on my windows xp but avg doesn't find any infections when I scan. Ad aware usually finds some trackig cookies and stuff, so I was thinking if I should uninstall avg and download norton antivirus? Does anyone have any other free antivirus programs I could install?

  • Answer:

avg all the way. norton and mcafee are worse than viruses themselves. they do more harm than good. they should be sued for the problems they cause. edit: do not use two av software at the same time. you can try to run a scan with counterspy to see what it will find. if you are infected counterspy will definately will reveal the doubt.

I'd probably say Norton. Sad to say it.

I don't recommend either because they're both resource heavy and don't offer very good protection. Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials are what I recommend http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.microsoft.com/security_essent%E2%80%A6 These are two very effective programs that are both free. You might also look into ESET NOD32, that is another good program but it's not free. http://www.eset.com Hope I helped!

Stay Classy

Consider changing AVG to AVAST or Avira. AVG free can not detect rootkits ( that is viruses that actively protect themselves from being detected). Also, you can try running Malwarebytes anti-malware, it might detect parasites that typical antiviruses miss.

I had AVGFree and the paid edition. When it expired downloaded Avast! Internet security suite. AVG was good but it took forever for my computer to boot.
