How to protect my pc?

How can I password protect only certain folders on my PC (the PC is shared, but I want some files private)?

  • I share a computer with two other people. Each of us have devised a system where we keep our personal files in sepeate folders on the desktop. I, however, would like more reassurance that these files are not being accessed. Is there a way/ a program that would allow me to only password protect a few folders on my desktop?

I've got the perfect answer. I've also had the same type of situation. I have a large family and everyone uses the same computer. I have private pictures and business spreadsheets that I don't want anyone seeing. Afer looking around the web I finally found http://www.folderhider.com It did a great job. The only issue is it did cost $29, but for me it was well worth it. If you check around like I did after the fact there are also some free ones, but I'm HAPPY!

If your using WINDOWS XP and the Drive partition is in the NTFS format then you can right click the file and set permissions. Else you have to download a software like Folder Lock which locks the folder and it contents with a password.

you can share just a part of your hard disk but if you want to share all of it and have a password for some files it is easy to create a passwrod whit WINRAR program.
