What is a "zip" attachment?

Is it safe to open a zip attachment from a craigslist reply?

  • I posted my resume on criagslist looking for a job. I received a response stating to open attachment for more information regarding job description and enter in the password given when prompted. The attachment was a zip file and came up to password but I am scared if i enter in the password it will down load a viris. Is this normal? Any advise. Thanks!

  • Answer:

Once you look inside of the zip file if you see an exe file don't run it.

Sounds rather unusual. I'd expect a .doc file or a .pdf file, can't see any good reason for a zipped file, unless it's to mask malware.

Not without running an antivirus scan first.Since there was a password associated, unless the sender gave you the password beforehand, I wouldn't open it.

I got one from a craigslist job posting also, 10/31/11. There is no company name/info... just this email. I'm not opening it. The zip file is titled {my first name}.zip {my name} Re: Office Mangr. and Bookkeeper From: [email protected] Dear {my name): Go through the attached file to find out complete details! When asked, type in this key: {my first name}3 Many Thanks, Skyler Chapman
