How can I get my background settings back?

How to recover lost program and original settings?

Yesterday I clicked some wrong key while setting desktop background. Now I lost my installed program. I do not have set uo file. How can I recover it? I checked Recyclebin and could restore other files except this one. Again while booting pc,I am getting message unser "User Environment" labelled window that windows can't find local profile & so on.Again,a program named Personalized Settings appear and lasts for about a minute,showing various file names. . How can I avoid it and get my original settings and lost program?
Answer:

Use a system restore point. This will restore all your settings from the time the system restore point was created. Type 'system restore' in the search box in the start menu to open the application, then select your restore point.
