online and free :(very cool) http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/center/howsafe.htm http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/center/cleanup.htm but don't forget that it needs internet explorer. you don't need to go to registry.making changes to registry may cause your windows not work.

If you have a ligit (not burned) version of windows you can go to Microsoft.com and download their antispyware. This works awesome. When I first started my job I had to constantly be on the internet. I would come in the next day and there would be about 15 popups waiting for me even though I wasn't on the computer. After I downloaded the Microsoft Antispyware (it's free) it has never happened again. As far as viruses go AVG has a really good free version that protects and updates! It works great. We use that at my work and at home! Good luck!

google "Spybot search and destroy". It's a free program. I've used it in IT for years. Then download and start using Firefox instead of Internet explorer. Those two will resolve 98% of your issues. On a rare occassion Firefox won't run something....then use the I.E.

well the best way to not get into trouble with popups and internet virus is not to use Internet Explorer...because as soon as the browser is attacked over the internet, it directly effects the system files directly. I strongly recommend if you are a professional internet surfer then use Firefox or some other browser other then Internet Explorer. Since internet explorer is system browser it may always create trouble. And try to keep your windows updated this will have you out of many unexpected troubles. And if you are already having trouble with the popup and virus... Re-Install the latest version of the Internet Explorer, and try to use Firefox to avoid such problems.

To block popups, you need to download the Google Tool Bar at http://toolbar.google.com/ For viruses and others, you need AVG 7.0 File Server Edition (requires Windows XP Service Pack 2).

Get the latest versions of “spybot search and destroy” and “ad-aware” from downloads.com. (If you were my customer, I’d have you download them more quickly from one of my servers). Then install them. Then update to the latest versions of them. Then run the “immunize” function from within “spybot”. Then empty your trash can. Install and run “crap cleaner” from http://www.ccleaner.com . Then run a full scan with the spybot and ad-aware programs. Update your virus-scanner to the latest version. If you do not have a virus scanner, get a free non-commercial version from http://free.grisoft.com – it does a decent job and doesn’t cost anything. Make sure and run a full scan with your virus-scanner too. When anything is found, fix/remove it and restart your computer. Following the above should greatly improve your internet speed, computer response time and data security. For more information, please see the “Computer Repair/Technical Support” link on http://www.jsh.biz/ . Have a pen and paper ready because I’ll give you all of the instructions that you need in less than 10 minutes to try and keep your costs down to under $10. I think that’s a pretty good deal to get all of that info for less than $10.
