How do I get nasty spyware off computer?

How do you get spyware off your computer?

  • I have security protection installed on my computer but still a spyware attack from the address of safenavweb.com has infected my computer. It started when I was helping someone do a family tree seach. when I googled a name and saw a site, I clicked on the site and it was the wrong name and address put on that site and it went to a spam fake porn site. Now I keep scanning my computer security protection for virises, but I'm still getting pop ups from Internet Explorer saying spyware and virises have been found and to click yes. When I click yes my security says that was sent from the unsafe address safenav.com and is trying to send me spam and infect my computer with viris and spyware. Does anyone have advice what I can do?

Main idea would be to not click on pop-ups, regardless of what they say. The best way to delete spyware from your computer would be to download a couple programs that can clean your computer and help with your problems. The first program is Ad-Aware, it searches your computer for all sorts of spyware and adware that slows your computer down and sabotages your security. Second program would be CCleaner (formerly known as Crap Cleaner), a program that deletes all unneccesary programs. Those two, coupled with a good (key word GOOD) anti-virus program like AVG, will help keep your computer clean. LISTEN TO YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM! It may seem paranoid, and flags everything you do, but it's important to listen to it. Regardless of how annoying some of the roadblocks may be, all it is doing is laying down a mass block of all websites which may damage your computer. And there are a lot. Google is full of fake sites, be careful.

Do yourself a favor and make sure you have a REAL virus protector in place and keep it up to date. DO NOT use one of the free registry scrubbers or antivirus tools so many here suggest. Some of these are ok, but far too many are themselves evilware and most of them are pretty flimsy. Some actually implant other spyware, adware or even viruses or trojans on your system and make things worse--far worse. I have not tested the top-rated dozen or so serious antivirus programs (of the many dozen out there) but PCWorld has; so has Consumer Reports. AVG is the lowest-rated. I would not depend on first-hand accounts from end-users and amateurs but instead, look for opinions from computer _professionals_ whose job it is to analyze these _essential_ programs. Using a free antivirus program is like buying cancer drugs from that guy on a street corner... See http://www.pcworld.com/article/124475-1/article.html or subscribe to Consumer Reports--I have done so for over 30 years and never miss an issue.
