What do I do if my email account was compromised?

Yahoo Email account is 'compromised' and nothing has fixed it :(?

  • Awhile ago I got an email from a family member talking about some pills and it had a link and of course... I opened it and got infected. I did what was recommended and changed the email password, ran various virus scans, and eventually restored my computer to factory settings. For awhile nothing was sent from my email account but recently it happened again and I've noticed that it will only send infected emails to people in my 'sent' folder and my contacts folder. I've been keeping my sent folder empty and deleted all of my contacts while adding a fake email address in my contacts so I can keep track if somethings been sent from my address as I will always get a email message saying it was unable to send the message. Does anyone have any suggestions or have had similar experiences?? I would rather not have to change my email address but I'm not sure what else I can do or if it will help.

    The infection is in your computer not on your yahoo Email account. your computer has been turned in to a spam bot. remove the infection and your problem will be solved. format your hard drive then reinstall the system. .

This can usually be stopped by running Malwarebytes. A normal virus scan is not going to detect malware. You need an anti-malware program. Malwarebytes can be downloaded for free. Run a scan, delete any infected files. Then delete your browsing history and cookies and empty your cache. Then restart your computer. This normally stops it
