What is Private Browsing?

  • What does it mean to start Private Browsing on the computer?

  • Answer:

"InPrivate Browsing" in Internet Explorer, "Incognito mode" in Chrome, and "Private Browsing" in Firefox and Safari all strive to do the same two things: make it impossible for users of the same computer to figure out which sites the browser has been used to visit, and make it impossible for sites to know whether or not a particular user has previously visited them. However. it does not work properly in any browser. suitably crafted sites can trace visitors between private and non-private sessions. Sites can also leave persistent indications that they had been visited, allowing visits to be detected by local users. .

The browser doesn't keep a record of where you've been in its history, cache or cookies.

Private browsing just uses your computers memory. Instead of writing to a disk cache or writing cookies to your hard drive, these are written to memory. When you exit the browser, the memory is flushed, leaving no record. Added: This however does ***Not Apply*** to "Persistent Storage" used by Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight. To remove cached items you must go into their respective 'Control Panel' and delete. While you are there set disk saving to Zero, or disable it completely.

Its basically an option you have to surf the internet without leaving any traces behind on the computer. So your brother/mom/dad could not see what sites you have visited. Kind of useless if you ask me but eh.
