PC Problems - XP Antivirus 2008?

Wow. I have never heard of this rogue anti-malware application before. But it sounds like a variant of Smit-fraud and you can read more about it here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_Antispyware To remove (it's what I did to get this off of my PC) was to use Smitfraud Fix. The directions are on the site. In the program it contains a enormous list of rogue anti-malware applications and forms of smitfraud. I don't know if XP Antivirus is included in this list but lets hope so. Follow: 1) Go to start 2) Accessories 3) System tools 4) System Restore Then just follow the on screen options and restore your computer to the date that was before you had installed the software however if this doesnt work you could always try: 1) Go to start 2) Control Panel 3) add or delete programs Then find the program that you had installed and uninstall it. Goodluck and i hope it all works out. Don't forget though to find the little icon of the antivirus program in the bottom left hand corner and right click it then selct shut down or exit. Make sure you do this here before you try uninstalling the program as its esential to unistalling it.

shut it down first by right click on its icon in the taskbar bottom right, the uninstall it at add/remove programs or it might have an uninstall manager with it...goto start menu...all programs and click it to expand and see if its got the uninstaller there

Ooops. Well if it's 'installed' on your PC, remove itby going on Start Control Panel Add/remove programmes Locate 'XP Antivirus 2008' and remove if, you cannot find it, it's basically a virus to your files and so on, My advice is, Follow this persons advice here, he had the same problem, and it was voted best answer so it must of worked for him: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071224055722AAKrNMg

Sounds like you have two anti virus programs now. Try to go to Start, go to Set Programs and uninstall the offending program. If I'm right though Windows XP doesn't have an anti virus. Is it the firewall? Note that two anti virus programs can cause huge problems to your computer. Sort it quickly.
