How do I get rid of the pop-up icon?

Weird virus...how to get rid of it?

  • We have a weird virus. My husbands brother uses our comp. sometimes also, but neways, on your computer in the right hand side where it shows all your little icons, we have one that shows a shield shape and then it flashes between the blue shield and a red shield with a X in the middle of it. It also has a popup saying" SYSTEM ALERT- system as detected a number of active spyware applications that may impact the performance of your computer". We have norton and it wotn get rid of it and then also when you click on the icon, it will open internet explorer and bring up a page called "virusprotect pro". It says to download it to get rid of it, but I know not to, because thats the virus. that program "virus protect pro" is not under add/remove programs either and so I have no idea how to get rid of it. Someone please help me out!!! Since then I have put a password on our computer, but I still need to get rid of this.

  • Answer:

Follow the procedure here: How to remove VirusProtectPro or VirusProtect Pro (Removal Instructions): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic98219.html "The latest rogue anti-spyware program installed via Zlob infections is VirusProtectPro. VirusProtect Pro is installed via a type of Trojan infection called Zlob Trojans which masquerade as video or audio codecs required to view a movie or listen to a audio file. In reality, though, these Trojans instead install VirusProtectPro as well as other malware on to your computer without permission..."

Try downloading a "Eusing registry cleaner" and "Spy Bot Search and Destroy". First do a registry clean -> scan -> repair! Second do a full Spy Bot scan, but before you scan YOU MUST UPDATE!! When it does the scan it will show all the viruses you got on your pc. Press fix problems on the top. If it says couldn't fix all problems, click on the + tab of that unfixed one. It will show where the virus is located. Go to Safe Mode by restarting and pressing F8. Find the virus and delete it!!! Good Luck!

i had encountered the same problem and we consulted a computer technician (although we're computer science graduates). he just installed the LAVASOFT AD-AWARE SE PERSONAL..scanned it..healed and holla!! all those stupid spywares were gone! but too late, those spyware already damaged my whole system and i lost my connection to the net.. so we reformatted it and immediately installed AVG and LAVASOFT AD-AWARE..oh and i sticked on MOZILLA FIREFOX as my browser

If Norton detects it, it should be able to get rid of it Try running Norton in Safe Mode. Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there. To get into Safe Mode: 1.Log out and reboot your machine. 2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key 3.Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu. 4.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance. You may have to log in as Administrator to delete the bad files. 5.When you're finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

There are two thing which can do this & your anti virus cannot remove them; you require a tool: Smitfraud removal tool: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic17258.html Vundo removal tool: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic18610.html
