How to lock a drive or folder for free?

  You can hide and prevent access to one or more drives by using Group Policy Editor in XP. Type gpedit.msc in Run command and hit enter. GPeditor will open. You will find User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer. Then on the right column you can see various options including hide specific drives, prevent access to drives etc. Double click on them and enable. In XP, you can only enable hiding and preventing for first four drives (A;, B:, C:, D:) and all drives. You can't hide or prevent other drives individually. If you don't enable prevention, then you can access the hidden drives by typing their drive letters on the address bar. Using Powertoys for XP you can hide other separately. But can't prevent access. Alternatively you can remove the drive letter of the drive in order to hide it from My Computer. You can do this by using Computer Management. Right click on My Computer and select Manage to get this tool. You must be an administrator to these operations. Hope this helps.
