Sorry, I don't agree with the previous poster, who moans "more freedom"...what you need is less freedom and for him to learn to abide by the rules set by the boss - you. The best way by far, is to remove the computer from his room and put it in a plainly visible place. He can do his homework there, if he needs to. It looks like he's either found out the actual IP address, so he's bypassing the DNS lookup, or he's using text-based chat. This MAY help, and it's worth a try: Edit C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts (it's a text file that you can open with notepad). Add this: 127.0.0.1 s-msn.com 127.0.0.1 w88.go.com You can add more entries, for example, replace w88.go.com with google.com to block off google.com This way, when he types the website on the browser, he will get a blank screen or an error message. If your login has administrative priviledges and his doesn't, he won't be able to do anything, unless he REALLY knows computers!

Your 12-year-old is an evil genius who hacks into sites with the plan of someday controlling the world.

Ah, clever kid. He probably used command prompt to get the IPs of the sites he wanted to go to (by pinging the websites) and got to them by typing in the IP instead of a URL. Reading your description, I doubt he hacked anything, or is using proxies. Unless he's looking at porn, pirating software, or using your credit card, I think you need to give the kid more freedom. He's probably just chatting with friends. Just teach him Internet safety, look over his shoulder a bit, and limit his computer time to a reasonable limit. Overprotective parents create cunning and mischevious kids in my experience. Arguing with the next poster, Dave, who claims I'm "moaning" for more freedom, he's wrong. With his plan, the kid can just get a new chat server or program. Easy peasy. Yeah, you should make it clear who's boss, but you can't overdo it or else your kid will stop listening to you. It's as common of a case as spoiled children.

well... your child must be smart =) Anyways... if you do not want your child going to those websites... and if is not smart enough to clear his memory... why not check his browsing history? And give him a punishment if you catch him? OR move his computer to the living room! or a more public place where he is either more likely to get caught or will be too afraid...

he is prob using a website, that is a free anonymous cgi proxy. if he thinks he is school for using that ****, you can just say he doesnt know anything about cpu's and crap, cuz all he has to do is type in the website he wants to go to. with cmd he def cant do anything. i recommend going here http://www.plevna.f9.co.uk/block-proxy-anonymous-surfing/block-proxy-sites-and-block-anonymous-surfing.htm and downloading the trial to block proxy websites. after he realizes he cant do what he was doing for a month he will never realize when he can start doing it again. stop this script kiddy!

It is easily bypassed if he just installs a new browser onto the PC. He can also use proxy web-based browsers to view almost any website in the world and thereby bypass any internet parental filter you enable or install on his browser. As for those two websites, neither of them have active web pages. The first is a password protected directory. The second has no index.html page.

My question is "Why does your Son have an Administrative Account?!" Go to the Websites and see what they are. If you find them to be inappropriate, lock the computer so that he can't use it (i.e.: "ground" him). In any case, he KNOWS he is doing something wrong...clicking the screen off like that is a consciousness of guilt. Next, if he has an administrative level account, change that ASAP. Once you've done that, find someone knowlegeable in IT and speak to them about how to block proxies, and https:// from operating on the computer. Don't use Geek Squad and similar "teams," because they don't know what they are doing half the time. I know for sure (100%) that a fair portion if not most of the Best Buy Geek Squad are NOT techs! Good Luck!

probably because you don't have a reputable internet filtering program. I suggest you look into Net Nanny 5.6, you cannot bypass it no matter what you try. They must enter a password and better yet, you can't use another proxy server at all. Good Luck !!!

he probably figured out your password and unblocked the computer and I tried to go to those websites and i couldn't access them ask him what they are and why is he hiding it from you. or just take the computer out of the house

they allow you to go pass the blocks or if you type the ip address of the site then you can get past it also. blocked websites always have a back door in and theres not much you can do.
