Virus checker for PC NOT connected to the internet?
-
Hi all! So far, all the commercial virus checking software that I've seen requires internet access for it to work. However, I have a PC at home that is NOT connected to the internet and my guess is that the virus checking software may not work, especially if it needs to be registered and/or requires frequent virus updates to be downloaded. So, I was wondering, if any of you guys know of a good virus software checker, either commercial or free, that may 'fit the bill!" In case you are wondering, I do have a second PC, one that IS connected to the internet, from which I could download any virus updates before finally transferring them to my home PC. While I'm quite prepared to spend money on some software, there is little point if not going to work on my PC at home. I feel sure that there is a simple solution out there to this problem and I hope that you guys can suggest something! Any help or advice would be welcome.

Answer:
Easy. Use your PC that is connected to the Internet to download ClamWinPortable. Put this on a USB key and then connect it to your other PC and run the program from the USB key. No need to install anything. Every so often connect the USB key to the first PC to download the updates, which will update on the USB key itself. [update] You are absolutely correct in that a virus can be transferred in any game or file that does not rely on an Internet connection.

A PC which has not been connected to the net does not require an AV. The safest PC going is one which has not connected to the net. Think about it ? how would it get a virus ? Edit: You must be as old as me. Yes you could get a virus from a USB stick (the day of the floppy discs have long gone), If someone give you a USB you put it into your second PC; scan it, then you know its clean before putting it into the other PC. The most common way to get a virus is from the net, if a PC is connected to the net, It should have an AV that has real time protection. If you look at office computers most are still using old OS & no AV - why ? because they are not connected to the net. An AV is only as good as it updates, no updates means the AV has no use.

If it is not connected to the internet you do not need an anti-virus. The whole purpose of updating is threats do evolve, so hence the reason to update. AVG will fit your bill and does have the ability to download manual updates from their site.No registration needed. http://filehippo.com/download/file/b78a6e4ff436398260406ad420d9cee79afb25e44df56e89d9aa5a40a248848d/
