What's a good virus protection?

Whats the best free internet security virus protection?

  • ok, i've tried the following...: McAfee Windows live onecare AVG Trendo Anti-Virus (something like that) and Norton. -im sure theres more... all of these slow my computer down like a turtle... this piece of junk only has 448 MB of RAM and theres nothing i can find that actually works without the dramatic affect of lagging my computer! the only thing i really need is Virus Protection and a firewall. a site advisor would be nice too. anyone know anthing that wont slow your computer down so much and is free with all those features i mentioned?? btw. I have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware :)

AVG is the best trade off between protection and runtime. A good firewall is the ZoneAlarm firewall available for free at http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firewall.htm Click the Download Now button. A good site adviser would be McAfee site adviser, also free and with plugins for Firefox and IE. However, if you are intent on protecting your computer at no cost to performance, switch to Linux. There are various lightweight distributions of Linux (free) that will run excellently on your system. Plus, Linux is not prone to virus attacks. Norton sux get rid of that its the worst for slowing down a pc low on ram. I would stick with AVG free and throw on spy bot search and destroy and you should be ok. Might run a little slow but if you cant get more ram thats your best choice imo.
