Virus scan in safe mode?

Can you run virus scan while Mac is in safe mode?

  • I just bought my Macbook Pro here back in September. Since this is such a costly investment, i'm uber paranoid about destroying this thing. Lately I've noticed my processing, internet connection and download speeds have been substantially slower than when i first bought this. I did some heavy research and decided to download a Mac anti-virus for jollies (sophos). Is there a way to run a Mac in Safe Mode like a PC so I can run a virus scan to maybe catch anything possibly bogging my system? I tend to stay away from the dirty sites due to the cost this machine, but I am a guy, so admittedly, it happens from time to time. However, I know Macs don't get affected by the same viruses as PC's, but still, just to appease my virus paranoia, I'm looking to run a scan to see if anything can be caught. Any info is greatly appreciated, as always! Thanks!
