What is an antivirus program?

What is a very good free antivirus program?

  • I have been using AVG, but I was wondering whether there are any other FREE antivirus programs that were superior than my current antivirus program. and no, I am not looking for hacks of paid versions, i want a legitimate free version of an antivirus software

  • Answer:

I've used Avast! ever since I've had my current laptop and highly rate it: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html After a year it'll try to make you think you have to buy the Pro version, you don't you can get a key for the free version as many times as you like.

avast antivirus is a very good option heres the link http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

AVG isn't really a good AV, it has horrible detection. I highly recommend: http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html One of the best AV's out there and its free. You don't always have to pay. Free AV's (Avast, Avira) out there, do much better than paid versions like McAfee, Norton, Nod32, etc. Of course Paid versions offer more security, with mail, parental controls, Firewall of their own, safe surf. But you can easily make a good combination with free Software on the net. Firewall: Comodo. Spyware: Malwarebytes. Web Surfing: Site Advisor.

For one thing, avg free has no root kit protection, says so on the download page, alot of peeps do not read this. Avira and avast are the top two to get.

avira,avast,pctools antivirus free all free.

I reckon AVG is about the best you will find. I've been using it myself for at least 5 years with no problems. It's regularly updated which is important, there are benefits here in not going with a fringe player, their large subscriber base means they have more funds to keep improving the system.

AVG go to download.com and look at most popular downloads and AVG will be the first one, hope it helps

I have used Zone Alarm Firewall, I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I have just changed to Avast antivirus and all seems good so far. Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
