Answer:
The company probably already knows what files you have downloaded, everything that came through their servers has been recorded. They might also have backed up the computer at night over the network so the files you have deleted from the computer are on backup tapes somewhere. And they may have the computer locked out so you cannot run your own software on it to erase anything. That said, here is a program you can use for yourself on your own computer - but if you get caught running it on the company computer you might get fired - I would not even try it on a company computer. ========== This is for your personal use at home - if it does not work right on your home computer, do not even try to make it work on a company computer. You can get a disk-wiping program called KillDisk from http://www.killdisk.com/ Click the "Download Free Version" button on the left side to get to this link: http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm Now, I used the file that can make a bootable CD, find this: Download Bootable ISO Image of Active@ KillDisk to burn CD and right-click on its link to download the zip file that contains the ISO file. You can then burn the ISO to a CD (I used Nero). Put the CD into the drive and restart the computer to boot from the CD. ========== This link explains what this company means by "wiping" data: http://www.killdisk.com/wiping.htm You can use the wipe function to only wipe the unallocated sectors and to wipe the sectors where now-deleted files had stored data. It will not delete your programs or data. The instructions are a little misleading at first because the author also talks about "erasing data" which for this company means erasing everything on the hard drive. Instructions here, you might want to print them: http://www.killdisk.com/wipedata.htm This is a slow program, running will take a long time, figure an hour per 50 GB of hard disk space. Have a good book to read while you watch it. Just to be safe, copy all your important data to CDs or DVDs or an external hard drive, perhaps make a backup of the computer. If the "wipe" works correctly, you will still have the backups for the future in case malware gets on your computer.
