How to find my mac admin password?

How do I remove my admin password on Mac OS 10.3??

  • Hi, I am selling my PowerMac G4 with 10.3 OS on it, and I wanted to remove my admin password from it. I went to System Preference > Accounts and thought if I just remove the password I entered there, it will work. When I did that first it gave me a warning saying "You did not enter password, sure you wanna do that" I clicked OK, then it gave me "You cannot change your password to the password you entered" And it reverts it back to the way things were. Does anyone know how I can remove my admin password?? If so plleeasee help this poor soul :(

  • Answer:

Hi Dahni, if your intention is to protect your personal files from the new owner, why not deleting the account? Did you try to login from another admin account before doing so? However, if the account's FileVault is turned on, make sure you turn it off first. But if you're the first person who use it once the OS X was installed, the account is the Master account and not just another admin. If all fails, I'd just go inside Users folder from the harddisk and open the account and manually select which files I want to remove. That way the new proud owner can still user the same account, less your stuff.
