How do I fix website security certificate errors?
-
I seem to continually be getting this: There is a problem with this website's security certificate. The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a trusted certificate authority.Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send. I get it for twitter, my company's benefit management site, Direct TV and other sites that I have no problem accessing on my husband's laptop. I pulled up my untrusted certificates and saw a lot from Diginotar, which I read had issues. Could this be the issue? I have googled and tried all the fixes I can find and nothing. Can anyone help?? Thanks much!!

Answer:
Most common problem: Right click tray time> "Adjust..."> Update. While here, tick 'Automatic synchronize...' Another situation: "On board" browser certificates not current. Vista/Win7: Go to your "Windows update" in IE8^ For XP: IE8> Security > Windows Update. When @ Microsoft Updates, click the 'Custom' button, not the 'Express'. This will give you hardware & software updates specific to your unit. Includes specific drivers & "Root Certificates". ["Express" and "Automatic Updates" only gives Windows operating system updates] Heed the wisdom of "Casca...": Internet Explorer should not be used. And accessing high value sites (company's benefit management site) and using Windows is taking chances beyond belief. Use Linux for those, otherwise there could be serious trouble. The 'DigiNotar', now defunct, you've heard about is an outfit from Europe. Their Certificates have been removed from browsers.

Stop using internet explorer, it is the most used, and attacked browser on the market, that's why security for that piece of junk browser is so high. I understand that you may have to use IE for some sites, and in those cases use IE, but I suggest you use firefox with these add-ons: adblock plus adblock plus pop-up add-on better privacy Ghostery WOT, this add-on gives safety ratings for sites, and search engine returns, only trust sites with a green rating. Firefox is easy to use, faster, and more secure than IE, and you will not get those stupid warnings with Firefox. You can also give Firefox a custom look with personas. http://www.getpersonas.com/en-US/
