How do you get rid of and MSN link sending virus/trojan?

Strange message on startup and also affecting msn?

  • when i start my computer it gives me a message saying "error. check out www.goodgirlsbadguys.com/goodgirlsbadguy… then "hey. timer is 10" or something. two popups. and on msn it keeps sending that link to my friends on msn, repeatedly, but i don't see it in the conversations. i've just uninstalled msn, i'm about to reinstall it but im not hopeful as the popup still comes up on startup. i ran a virus scan, but all i have is AVG and it just gives me a whole load of nonsense and doesn't do much. i'd rather people didn't suggest different antiviruses for me to download, surely there must be some way to get rid of it through registry editor or something?

    hi, i had the same problem then i went to http://www.lavasoft.com, downloaded the free version of ad-aware, scanned my computer and solved the problem. at the end of the scan you must reboot your system in order to remove the infected items from the boot sequence. ciao! m

This seems to be registry error use some good registry cleaner tool such as Reginout to repair the corrupt registry.

Yes, you've picked up a virus.Some are easier than others to remove. Looks like this one has tucked itself in the registry. The easiest way to resolve the problem is to use an anti virus package, but make sure you boot up in safe mode if you can. Otherwise you could try a rollback and see if you can restore the system to the point before you picked up the virus. Look at system restore in your windows help. If it really is a tough one to get rid of, you may be down to re-installing windows on your machine. Not an ideal solution I know, but virus writers are getting more canny as time goes by. Hope you get it sorted.
