Windows 7: How do you block a certain website from the computer?
-
My mother loves drama. There's this website called TOPIX (I'm sure a lot of you out there know what it is) and she absolutely loves getting on there to bash other people. Well, everyone is getting fed up with her 'trolling' and she's about to get into some serious trouble. I'm tired of having to follow in on every thread she posts on and submit it to the website to have it removed. I've begged her to stop, but she won't. She obviously thinks that nobody is going to figure her out when plenty of people know who she really is by some of her obvious remarks on threads. So, I'm fed up with her childish, dramatic bull crap and I'm wanting to put a stop to it. It's pretty sad when the child has to step up and do something like this, but I don't know what else to do. I'm new to Windows 7, but I know with Vista, there was some sort of thing on it that allowed you to block certain websites. I guess they were parental controls of some kind. I never used them because my old computer had Windows XP on it, but my sister-in-law was telling me about it because she used them on her computer. Is there anything on Windows 7 that will allow me to block my mother from using that website? I don't want to block it entirely; I actually like getting on there and reading the news and keeping up with what's going on in my town. Is there a way that I can just block it during the day so she can't access it and later, I can unblock it so I can get on and check everything? Can I do that with something already on the computer, or do I have to actually go somewhere and download a blocker of some kind? Your help would be highly appreciated and thanks. : )

Answer:
Why do you feel the need to babysit her? And what do you mean, "she's going to get into serious trouble?" How? The worst that can happen is she'll get banned from the site. As long as she's not using your username and password, what do you care? Let the crazy lady suffer the consequences of her actions, and maybe she'll learn something.

Your list might look like this: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 www.xxxbadsite.com 127.0.0.1 www.predators.com 127.0.0.1 www.etcetc.com Step 5 Go to the file dropdown menu in the upper left corner of the notepad document. Blocking unwanted sites without installinf any software: Step 1 Do you want to block a certain websites to prevent your kids from access to these sites?, or you want to block it because it has virus, Trojan or malware?, whatever the reason you want to block this site. Of course there are many software that allow you to block some websites, but what if you wanted just to block one or two websites? installing software takes memory disks pace and CPU power making your computer more slower. Instead of installing any additional software there is trick you can use to block and redirect certain website to other safe websites, in windows there is file called the Hosts files which is used to control mapping networks names Step 2 The hosts file is located in "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" we are going to edit it to block certain websites Go to this directory [c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc], directory may change according to drive used for os installation Step 3 then hit enter Step 4 find a file named "hosts" Step 5 Right click on it and open with word pad. Step 6 In the last line of the document type the IP* address of any website that you want to redirect your blocked sites to. (For example: if you want to block google.com and redirect it to yahoo.com.. type the ip address of yahoo.com , give space and type the domain name google.com.. 209.131.36.158 google.com Here the ip address is of yahoo and the domain name is google so when anyone types google.com in your computer, they will be redirected to yahoo instead of google. If you dont want to redirect the blocked site to any other site , then you can use your own localhost ip 127.0.0.1) Step 7 now save it. Step 8 restart the browser if its already running Step 9 Now try it, It works perfect
