How do I get rid of the Whitesmoke translator virus?

  • I have a virus on my computer that opens every time I start it up asking me to run "whitesmoke." I also have a program called whitesmoke translator that is on my desktop. I can delete it but the virus still remains on my computer. Does anyone know any information on this virus, and how to get rid of it? My norton wont detect it for some reason. Thank you!

    Well first off I'd like to say Norton is a piece of trash. Norton is only "ok" and thats what you don't want. Also.. yes you may have seen commericials and such on Norton, but Norton isn't as good as they say it is. Try doing these steps and you should be able to get your computer to work now. If you don't want to get rid of Norton then do NOT download Microsoft Security Essentials as two anti-virus programs will conflict each other. 1. Get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows advanced Options Menu". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm <----Only if you don't have Windows 2000/XP 2. http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm <---- Free scan it removes anything harmful on your computer and puts it in quarantine or in otherwords stops the virus. 3. Get http://www.malwarebytes.org/ <---- Free anti-malware which knocks out malware. If you have the boughten version then you will get, website blocking, automatic scans/updates when you want to, active protection, one lifetime low fee etc. Free version you have to do everything manually and you wont get some of the extra features. 4. I use Microsoft Security Essentials Anti-virus/Spyware & Malware. I never had a problem ever since I had all this with my computer. http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ If none of this seems to help then I reccomend you go to your local computer store for help or consult a computer technician.

i just spent 2 hours first with norton and then tried to contact tech support from whitesmoke and they said they would email me instructions and they haven't . if you find anything out pleez let me know. Susan

I just solved this problem right now haha. So just uninstall it because it automatically installed when you clicked on something or went to a certain web page I'm not sure where it comes from. To uninstall it you just go to "all programs" then find whitesmoke translator and click 'uninstall'. Good luck!

If You have Windows XP,Vista,Win 7 then, most C:\ Drive that is system drive is to be formated. you can later remove virus from other drives using antivirus, as only your system drive is affected because of which you get the message un "whitesmoke." For windows backup files & settings using: All Programs>Accessories>File & Settingd backup wizard. You will have to reinstall Xp & other software you will need.
