Can anybody hack into my computer through my IP address, got from Yahoo Messenger?

How can I prevent Yahoo Messenger from establishing a peer to peer connection when I am using IM?

  • I read in the "Privacy Policy" that they sometimes do this. http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/ip/details.html This is what it says: Yahoo! Messenger sometimes uses a peer-to-peer connection during its operation, including times when you may be using it for instant messaging (text conversations), file sharing and webcam streaming. Peer-to-peer means that your computer connects directly to the other user's computer in the conversation without needing to go through Yahoo! servers. As such, your IP address is available to users you share a peer-to-peer connection with. I had no idea that they do this when you are simply text messaging!! Anybody know of a way of turning this off?!!

  • Answer:

Hey pal, That feature is just for your conviniece about the speed!!! peer to peer is much more faster. but i think if you go to messenger tab and connection preference, and then select firewall with no proxy it will work. otherwise you should selet a proxyserver. Ciao,
