Is there really a virus on Flickr?

Got rid of my virus... but now my computer is effed up?

  • I had the virus 'Antispyware Soft'', I got rid of it (somehow lol... I just did a bunch of different stuff). Basically I ran my virus protection thingy that I had on here already (AVG or something). It said it got rid of it, so I restarted my computer, and it is seemingly gone (no more pop ups from it and what not). But the only issue is that now for some reason, I can't upload pictures to the internet. I can't get files to upload to picnik, flickr, photobucket, and I can't even get pictures to attach to emails. So I guess whatever it is that allows me to upload pictures is screwed up now? What should I do?

  • Answer:

First of all, I would highly suggest putting AVG free back on because it's very dangerous to go without any protection. Just because there are no noticeable symptoms does not mean the systems clean. I would suggest going to another computer and installing AVG Free on a flash drive and running it from that on your computer. If the computers compromised, the virus could have gotten to the virus scanner and will not be detected. As uploading pictures, it could possibly be a firewall issue. Check your security level, and if it is set really high try a slightly lower level, and see if it works. Just do not have it too low. If that does not fix it, you may try clearing the cache in your browser. Also, have you changed settings in your camera or are using a different camera? Try uploading an old picture just to see if that's the problem, the sites your using to upload could have a size filter or something. If that solves the problem, simply change the quality settings in the camera. If none of that works, let me know. EDIT: Oh, my bad. Yeah, even if the virus is gone, the damage could still be there. But just to be sure, you should still install a virus scanner on a flash drive (from another computer) and scan with that. One thing you could try is to make the system go back to an earlier state. In Windows this is called System Restore. In Apple it is Time Machine. Just chose a date earlier than the problems, and it could fix it.

That fake antispyware is a really nasty virus. It does damage to your computer and it stays that way even after removing it. A friend of mine did the same thing you did and now can't print anything from Internet Explorer. Some tech guy said he might have to completely reinstall Windows so there's a chance you might have to do the same thing. Good luck.

you may download free license Norton 2010 ' Full Version ' from http://www.bestdownloadfreesoftware.com/ , it is the most appropriate software for resolution of your issue.

Hi there, Try to remove it manually Disable the System Restore feature on your computer. If this is still turned on, the system will restore any deleted files, including those infected by the Trojan horse. This can be done by going into the My Computer file and looking for the Performance option. Then select File System, Troubleshooting and Disable System Restore. Turn on the computer and run it in safe mode. Restart the computer and when the words begin appearing on the screen, press the F8 key. This takes you to a new screen, where you'll select the safe mode option. Let the computer start as it regularly would before you continue. Go into the Control Panel by clicking on the "Start" button at the bottom left-hand side of the screen and looking for the Control Panel. Select the Add or Remove Programs icon. The computer should then show a list of all programs existing on your system. Look for programs that include Spyware or adware on your computer and select the Remove program option. Many users have found it helpful to look for programs that they didn't install and those that were installed when they downloaded a game or other program onto their computer. Open the Windows System folder and delete all files that include the Trojan virus extension. Go through the list twice to make sure you removed all virus files. Then restart the computer in normal mode and check the folder again. If all the files are gone, you'll be ready to move on. If there are any remaining, remove them and restart the computer. Hope this helps, Ava
